Do you need a pool vacuum?

Simply put, you definitely need a pool vacuum. Without one, you can expect your pool to have dirt, debris, and appear cloudy. Vacuuming not only keeps your pool clean, but also keeps the chemicals circulating around.

So, let’s talk about pool vacuuming.

How Does It Work?

When you vacuum a pool, you are connecting a hose to the skimmer and vacuum head. The head of the vacuum is connected to a metal pole, which helps you move the vacuum around the bottom of the pool. The pressure allows the vacuum to suck up any debris and dirt that has accumulated at the bottom or on the sides.

Consequences

Think about if you did not vacuum your house for a few weeks. It would probably get pretty dirty. Well, pools are the same. Without proper vacuuming, dirt, algae, and debris will accumulate. If this is the case, you may have to drain your pool as the water cannot be chemically altered to be balanced. All of these consequences can cause structural damage as well, considering that debris can rip the liner and clog your filters. Algae can also be very challenging to remove after it has accumulated for a certain period of time. It is wise to vacuum your pool as opposed to having to deal with these situations that can cost additional money and require repairs.

Alternatives

If you do not want to have to vacuum the pool physically, there are robotic vacuums that operate on their own. You drop these vacuums in the pool and they are programmed to go around your pool sucking up debris. They do not need to be monitored while they are operating. While this saves a lot of time, they can be much more expensive.
